Access Platforms

Before purchasing an AWP, you should consider the type of work and in what conditions the AWP will be used. Here, platform height, lifting capacity, cabin size and available space are important. In addition, ergonomics, battery capacity, ground and weight play a role in transportation and floor load.

Buy an access platform

Access platforms are special machines used to safely raise workers to perform work at height. Access platforms are often used in situations where erecting scaffolding is too expensive or time-consuming. Especially when a job needs to be done of short duration, having scaffolding erected is not effective. An access platform can then be a solution. Aerial platforms are regularly used in construction, industry and engineering. For example, the fire department or landscaping companies also regularly use aerial platforms when work needs to be done at height. Access platforms allow you to work safely to much greater heights.

How does an access platform work? An access platform contains a drive unit. This is a hydraulic arm that can be used to raise or lower the access platform. The hydraulic arm can articulate in several places. At the end, the access platform contains a tray or platform in which workers can stand. This bin contains a sturdy structure with fencing that prevents the worker from falling. The propulsion of a access platform can vary. Usually a diesel engine or electric motor is used. There are also access platforms that are powered by gas.

Different types of access platforms

Access platforms come in different types. Access platforms can be divided into two main groups, namely fixed work platforms. These access platforms are set up in one fixed location. This fixed setup is done before the bucket is raised. You can move fixed access platforms but it takes a little more time because these access plaftorms lifts are first placed firmly. A mobile access platform is easier to move because it does not have to be placed extra firmly on the ground. A mobile access platform is stable enough by itself. A mobile access platform can be moved safely even when there are people on the platform. However, these persons must hold on securely and the mobile elevating work platform must of course be lowered before it is moved due to the danger of tipping over. We mention a few more well-known forms of access platforms, these are classified below according to the lifting mechanism:

Telescopic boom lift

Scissor lift

Boom lift

Articulated boom lift

There is a wide range of access platforms and then good preparation is important to make a good choice to buy the right one.
