Electric Pallet Trucks
An electric pallet truck, also known as pallet jack, is a battery-powered device used for moving pallets with goods horizontally over shorter distances.
Electric Drive:
Electric pallet trucks are powered by electric motors for both driving and lifting. This makes them more ergonomic and productive compared to manual pallet jacks.
Compact Design:
Pallet trucks generally feature a compact design, making them maneuverable in tight spaces such as warehouse aisles. Currently, the electric pallet truck with a small Li-ion battery is highly popular due to its affordable price under €2,000, compact size, and lightweight of only 100 kg, making it ideal for transportation in delivery trucks.
In addition to the electric pallet truck with a foldable platform, there is also the standing operator model. This version offers better protection for the operator's lower legs in case of collisions and provides a more ergonomic standing position.
Capacity:
Electric pallet trucks are available with capacities ranging from 500 kg to approximately 8 tons. The Linde Citi-One is an example of a pallet truck with a 500 kg capacity and solid rubber tires. Standard pallet trucks typically have polyurethane wheels and capacities ranging from 1,600 to 3,000 kgs. There are also heavy-duty electric pallet trucks with capacities from 3 to 4 tons, suitable for transporting paper rolls, and up to 8 tons for large moving boxes or chemical tanks.
Depending on the travel distances, pallet trucks can be either pedestrian / walk-behind or equipped with a stand-on or sit-down operator position. The maximum travel speed of these is also higher for longer distances.
The forks vary based on the load to be transported, with common sizes including:
- 1,150 x 560 mm to handle 1 Euro pallet (800 x 1,200 mm)
- 2,350 x 560 mm to handle 2 Euro pallets placed end-to-end or multiple roll containers
- 1,000 x 560 mm to handle 1 Euro pallet (800 x 1,200 mm) used on the tailgate of a lorry.
- 1,000 x 680 mm for various fruits and vegetables pallets or block pallets
Pallet trucks can also be equipped with 80 cm lifting forks to raise the pallet to working height (e.g., Atlet PLE, Linde T16L).
Special Versions:
Special versions of pallet trucks include those with weighing systems / scales, galvanized pallet trucks, and stainless steel pallet trucks for the food industry.
