Diesel forklifts

A diesel forklift is primarily used for outdoor work. There is a wide range of diesel forklifts available, from 1,500 kg to 42,000 kg lifting capacities. Diesel forklifts are often used in heavy-duty conditions and can be operated 24 hours a day if necessary.

Since many countries have imposed restrictions on the use of diesel forklifts, the share of electric forklifts is steadily increasing. In some markets, diesel forklifts are still permitted for indoor use if they are equipped with a diesel particulate filter (DPF) system that filters out unburned diesel particles (particulates) from the exhaust gases. Such a diesel particulate filter system is often installed in the counterweight of the machine, in place of the standard muffler. The filter needs to be regenerated regularly.

Production of diesel forklifts is decreasing in Europe. More and more manufacturers are halting the development of new diesel forklifts as emissions regulations become stricter and the costs of meeting these stricter requirements become prohibitive. At the same time, advancements in electric forklifts are occurring at an increasing pace. Electric forklifts are becoming more capable of replacing diesel forklifts, even at high capacities and in heavy-duty conditions.
